As you enter Fort Edward from the north along the towpath of the Old Champlain Canal you will approach Mullen Park. Here you will find an information and map kiosk. There is also a bicycle repair station available complete with a work stand, tools, and pump. Continuing south along the Empire State Trail, you will pass Mullen Park and the East Street Amtrak Station. Yesterday, my husband and I took our Denver daughter and 9 year old grandson to visit the Saratoga Surrender Site. This has been a long term project for us. Bob is on the Board of the Friends of the Saratoga Battlefield which raised funds to construct the site. Dylan visited the site when it was under construction and he and his grandpa re-enacted General Burgoyne’s surrender of his sword to General Gates. There is room for kids to run and to see the views. This is probably due to the ever-increasing connectivity of bike trails in our part of the state; and there is much more to come.
